Product review: Planter’s Five Alarm Chili Peanuts
My wife will tell you I’m a sucker for snack foods, particularly new snack foods. The marketing folks have me at “new” when it comes to anything salty and/or crunchy and/or crispy. Throw in spicy, and, well, they may as well have a my bank account number.
Such was the case last week when I saw the new Planter’s “Five Alarm Chili” dry roasted peanuts. I’m just now getting over a bad cold and haven’t been able to properly taste food since buying these, but now I can taste them, and man, are they good. I’ve always loved dry roasted nuts, but Planter’s does them especially well for some reason. Maybe it’s because nuts is what they do.
But I was especially impressed with the fact that these nuts boast a spicy flavor when called “Five Alarm” and, well, they aren’t messing around. On a scale of 1 to 10 as it relates to standard packaged spicy food, I’d say these nuts are about a 7.5 or 8. You novices will need a big glass of water. You pros won’t be able to stop eating them. Not only are they addictive based on taste, but the tingling in your mouth from the spice will also have you reaching for the jar several times.
So if you’re looking for a satisfying snack while watching college basketball this weekend, go for these spicy nuts….would Mikey steer you wrong?

[…] was not expecting them to be as good (hot/spicy), but, damn, they are surely NOT on the mild side! Product review: Planter’s Five Alarm Chili Peanuts Enjoy! __________________ – Phil 1994 Cobra coupe #0013, 2011 Genesis Coupe, 2011 Tucson GLS […]
Spot on review…..love em….did not expect the heat, but I’ll take it…..
I must not have taste buds because these are about as spicy as oatmeal. The old Planters spicy peanuts were spicier.
I absolutely agree! This is spot on. I was just looking for a link to the Planters site for these nuts to post on Facebook and share the news with those who also like to feel the burn.
Like an earlier poster noted, the old spicy peanuts were way spicier. They also tasted better. The flavor of these isn’t very good.
The first time I ate them I thought they were medium spiced but I’m eating them now and I’m burning my lips off!!!
Not as spicy as their forefathers, they come out strong with the chili background then level out to blandness. Mehh.. Low sodium candidate?
Just tried these peanuts. Let’s just say I’m in heaven!! I love peanuts + spicy foods like hot wings. This product give me the spice of hot wings and crunch of the peanuts!! This is my new addiction.
I can’t seem to find you 5 alarm chili peanuts anywhere. I love them and could you please restock them so I can buy some more.
Can you be more specific about the content of your article? After reading it, I still have some doubts. Hope you can help me.
